Starband is back!! |
|
|
I returned home to hear that cluster 050 was going back on line, and
sure enough, when I powered up the modem, I was getting Rx and Syn
lights. My computer, which I had reconfigured to use AOL dial-up, was
completely back to normal with the Starband service.
I think Starband dodged a HUGE bullet with this satellite coming back
on line, assuming they can get their customers on the other two
clusters working again. |

Yeah, the people on cluster 050 better hope the 002 and 189 comes up also.
Or I would bet Starband will move everyone to 050 so they don't have to
re-point all the dish's. 189 has always been over loaded, so I hate to
think everyone on one cluster would do.. But lets see how it goes.

I was on 002. Just got back online a few minutes ago.
They moved me to 007.
I had to run the config program several times before it took.
What would happen: Light 6 would go on, then 1, 2, 3,
a flicker of 5, 4, lotsa 5 flickers. Seemed good. But, just
a few seconds before the config program exited, all but
lights 1 and 6 would go out.
So I just kept running CSatModemConfig.exe over'n'over, and finally it
took. Each time, I'd refuse to answer the Reboot now? question, letting
that dialog just hang there. The lights stayed on longer'n'longer each time,
until they stayed on.
Very nice to be back. Nice to have had alt.satellite.starband for a bit
of communication during the away mission.

rocking and rolling. I have good signal strength. ( 8.5) about what I had
on 189.. So far so good..

Congratulations to Starband/Intellisat for a job well done!
I really didn't expect them to be able to get anyone back online quickly
when Intellisat called IA7 a "Complete loss" -- I'm overjoyed!

I was also on 002 and was moved to 007. I however, didn't have the
same success. I ran the config program and it reported success. I
re-booted the modem and the lights went through the usual flashing
sequence. Happily all remained on with the rx flashing. This lasted
2-3 seconds then all but pc and pwr lights went off. Repeated
rebooting of the computer and the modem changed nothing. The modem
configuration is correct. (The only change is the cluster number)
Sugestions?

Hi Ray
Based on my own experience, I'd keep running
CSatModemConfig.exe manually. However, DON'T
answer the Reboot question until the lights go out, and DON'T Reboot.
If the lights do go out, run CSatModemConfig.exe again. Do the
same non-answer to the Reboot question, and DON'T Reboot.
Dunno if that'll work for others, but I sniff that it might. Some kind
of pump priming seems to be going on.
Best ...

Thanks Stan
I gave up and went to bed. When I tried again this morning repeated
running of CSatModemConfig.exe resulted in repeated success messages
but no connection. When I returned to the tools menu in troubleshooter
and clicked "Apply configuration" again I was rewarded with a
connection. All seems to be working well now.
It seems you are correct in the need for some "Pump priming"
Apparently a rest period also helps :)
Thanks again,
