the control circuit, i need a circuit that can control the actuator to open

lol.....Yes They are commonly used to thinks like this,However have
never had my hands one one to play arround with, automatic door locks is
as large as I have gone so far using solinoids.
What happens if you apply power to the actulator? It should move? |

Eraser,
You can use a satellite dish positioner. You can define the 2 positions you
need (ie "open" and "closed"). Then you can even use the IR remote to open
and close the gate. I have thought of doing this to actuate a garage
Tilt-a-Door using an old Echostar positioner I am not using for sat any
more. Just haven't got around to it yet.
