Hi,
I'm completely new to satellite TV and live in Holland.
I bought a Amstrad 400 sky digibox and a 60 cm. dish. When I installed it I
used a satellite finder to to point it in the right direction.
However when I start the digibox I get a message that there is no satellite
signal.
What am I doing wrong, or what can be wrong?? |

When I set up the dish I used the sat. finder for the strongest signal..
Having clamped everything down checked again and the signal seems to be
strong.

But on which satellite?

There's dozens of satellites in the sky - you've probably found one of
the wrong ones.

I'm trying to tune into Astra 2 - 28.8 deg. east of South and about 28 deg.

Its still possible that you have missed a couple of degrees. Try moving
the dish
slowly towards east. You might find a new position with the correct signal.
If not try the
other direction.
For Amsterdam the sun will have the same azimuth as the satellites at 28.2E
at 10:31
local time (09:31 GMT). I the weather allows it you could use the sun to
point the
direction of the antenna. The suns altitude/elevation will be less than the
satellite.
http://home.online.no/~jensts/Satellite/lookangles.htm
The suns elevation will be 9.9deg for Amsterdam at 10:31 today. The
satellite elevation is 26.4deg
which means the sun is passing 16.5degrees below the satellites as seen from
Amsterdam.
