Suggestions for two-way satellite broadband |
|
|
Hello:
I am looking for the top providers of two-way satellite broadband
service in the U.S. (Michigan). We are looking for a service that will
provide upload speed up to 256 Kbps, and support for 2-3 static IP
addresses.
We would like to host web and email services, so we are also looking
for suggestions and feedback on how well it works on satellite with the
high latency.
Also, we are open to any additional feedback on the reliability of
two-way satellite service as well.
Thank you very much for all feedback!!

You cross-posted this to multiple groups, and I'm answering from
alt.satellite.direcpc. At least in this forum we don't typically
discuss "top providers" rather we talk about Direcway, WildBlue, and
occasionally Starband.
WildBlue cannot currently provide static IPs. Direcway can, and can
also provide 256kbps uploads (service that just started in the past
couple of weeks). Having said that, though...

Extremely badly. It will also violate the TOS for these low-end
services.
Now, there are true "top providers" out there like iDirect and Tachyon
if your pockets are really deep, but generally the service will cost
you more than a terrestrial T-1, at a fraction of the performance of a
T-1, so the question becomes, Why?

And I'm answering this from alt.satellite.starband.
I'm the official moderator and in A.S.S. we don't typically discuss any
satellite providers.
We're more focused on how phucking crooked the democrats are.

LOL!
Looks like your democrat buddies are robbing the kids piggy bank.
Air America Keeps Poor Kids Waiting
After promising to pay back a nearly $1 million "loan" it obtained from a South Bronx community group that services poor children, the liberal radio network Air America now says the organization will have to wait for its money.

At one time they all said "upload speed up to 256 Kbps" and some still do.
Chances of getting it are slim to none. Remember 10Kbps falls in the range
of up to 256Kbps.

Re: Suggestions for two-way satellite broadband |

I represent several companies including iDirect, Starband, and Galileo.
Even Direcway has a new service that has much faster upload speeds
called the DW7700. All these systems are comercial systems that range
from $1800 to $2900 due to the fact it uses a 1 meter dish. Expect to
pay $99 to $169 per month depending on your bandwidth needs.
I have both fixed and mobile systems.
I have a network of installers throughout the U.S. and can have your
system installed within 2 weeks time. Just email me at glen@gmdusa.com
Thanks!

I gather that you haven't installed any yet? The $99 to $169 services
are the same speeds as the equivalent 6000 services, and more
importantly are not available yet with a 7700. The only available
(today) 7700 service is much faster, but carries a $300 monthly price
tag. An even faster service will be coming soon in the $500 monthly
range, and should be available when the slower services are also
available.
All of those are dependent on the recently launched IA8, which should
be ready for service before the month ends.

Re: Suggestions for two-way satellite broadband |

I noticed that my current dw6000 equipment will work with 2 of the
business class plans. Of interest ti mme is that they are selling VOIP
service, that is highly over priced IMHO.
The $99 plan has a 64Kbs up load speed and an upload FAP of 50MB.
With my calculations that comes to 130 minutes or aproximatly 2 hours
talk time if your use the full 64Kbs at all times.
I would like to hear from anone that geets a chance to use a 3rd party
VOIP such as Vonage or Broadvoice over the $99 connection. How long you
can talk on your 50MB allotment and how good the quality of the call is
Thanks,

Thanks Don!
I had seen the ground control chart, but c-comsat's information is much more
complete at this time - the only piece of information that seems to
bemissing is the upload/download recovery rate for the 7700 plans.

At the moment only VARs have it, and they all vary, but one that posts
their prices and are usually the same as Direcway is C-Comsat. Their
prices for the 5 plans vary from $89 to $499 monthly and all can be
found at http://www.c-comsat.com/fixed_solution.html

You didn't say where you saw that plan, but you either looked at a
wrong plan, or misread it.
That plan sounds like ones that are sold for credit card processing,
and there is no internet access with such plans.
Currently, there are 2 business plans available for the 6000, both
requiring a .98 meter dish. Both are nominal 100Kbps uploads, with
Small Office having a 500MB FAP and Business Internet having 800MB
FAP. SO is $99 from Direcway, $110 from most VARs. BI is $129 from
Direcway, and $149 from most VARs.
Direcway and VARs also offer a "Pro" account, called "Back Office" by
most VARs. Not a business account, and has the same upload speeds as
consumer. $89 from Direcway, $99 from VARs, and 350MB FAP.
