If I understand a reply by Mr.Martin, the local
Seattle stations can be had on the BUD?? How is it done please. I live
in Olympia and am using a cable service to get my locals. Would sure
like to dump this service. TIA.

Seattle stations can be received on a BUD via Star Choice (F1), but you
only get 5 channels (ABC,NBC,CBS,FOX, and PBS). You can sub to them via
Dish or Direct and get most of them.

Technically Starchoice isn't BUD, although it can be received with a BUD
and a Starchoice receiver (whch you really ought to get its own dish for).

Gary,

I have had Star Choice for a year and I am still using my 8.5 foot BUD
as it does capture more signal. The dish sits on F1 most of the time. I
have taken Favorites A and B and set one on V and the other on H, and
have divided the channels so I don't have to switch polarity all of the
time. It works out better. I do have the Star Choice Dish, but I like
getting 80s and 90s on most channels in signal. There are only a couple
French channels on F2, so I don't care about those. I don't have HD on
SC, so it works out pretty well.
When I got the SC receiver, I had the splitters all in place as I was
using them for DVB and 4DTV, so it took 2 minutes to have the SC
receiver on and running. Very easy.

How do you get around the "Local to Local Only" rules for out of staters like
me?

You can't, unless you live within the footprint as I do. Both Portland &
Seattle on Dish are in the same beam. If there is no signal, you can't
get it. With Dish, you can what they call "move" and give them a
different physical address in another area, but it would only work, if
you are in the beam of the signal. Some people have second homes. I have
one in So Cal. I used to get the LA locals here in NW Oregon as I have
an address in the LA market, but they moved most LA stations to
spotbeams, so that is out now. I do get distant locals (the main nets)
from LA & NY though, as they are on conus beams (ABC,NBC,CBS, & FOX).
