Not a dream at all. Most informed sources believe the upgrade will be
done at a very minimal cost to the subscriber if any all. There will
likely be a 2 year subscription commitment requirement, however. There's
a recent thread (and many others) over on the AVS boards about this.
Nice try. Now produce a URL for your "informed source" - you?

You said it. You're guessing. But, do you really think D* is going to

This goes to show that you know very little about this subject.
In Washington, DC (#8 market in the country), there are 12 digital TV
channels on line. Five of them are SD-only, and only one of the other
7 shows any HDTV that isn't sourced from the network.
This is pretty much typical across the country, although some areas don't
have any passthrough of network HD...they have nothing but SD.

I have no sleepless nights. I also have zero idea how this will all

Yes, they are being generous. They don't *have* to give away the extra

Absolutely HD is different. The broadcasting of all locals was and is

You sure seem to be consumed with this issue in your waking moments.
You say you have "zero idea" what will happen, yet you also seem to have a
compulsion to argue on and on about the subject with anyone who offers his
own guess on what may happen.
You made it quite clear, over and over and over again what you believe WONT
happen, so why not give the subject a rest for a while and lower your blood
pressure a little?
Everyone else's guess is just as good as yours. Stop asking for URL's - as
you have not provided any to back up your quite obvious notion that DTV is
going to stick it to us (reference your plentiful previous posts for your
transparent feelings on the subject). People are free to speculate without
the need to provide URL's. |

Jack, then just what is your point here? That front-line reps are
clueless? Granted. That no one knows exactly how DTV is going to
handle the switchover? Granted. There's really nothing else to argue
about, everything else is just speculation.
DTV will hand out as little information as they can get away with. The
only thing they will release is glowing reports of how great everything
will be once they switch. Nothing concrete so they can keep everybody
holding their breaths. If they don't tell us what they're going to do,
we can't start complaining about it ahead of time (well, most of us,
anyway).

I suspect that the FCC requires that sort of disclosure, whereas equipment
pricing is another matter. Listing the channels and cities may help to
reduce churn (gosh, if I wait long enough, DTV will have HD coverage of my
locals--sorry, Comcast). |
