I remember the old B3 satellite had various transmission beams, many
were for the whole country, and some were for specific states (or at
least sections) of Australia. And there were NZ beams too.

Does the C1 have different beams for different channels? Is there a
website that breaks that down?

What I'm wondering is since channel 9 (for instance) is different in
sydney/melbourne/brisbane etc, is it on a different beam? (where it's
even available!) There is only so much Ku band frequency available, so
using different beams would save some frequency and save some money -
and allow more channels on the satellite wouldn't it?

Thanks, it has a link for the B1/B3 satellites, but the beams aren't
explained for the C1

C1 is a national beam, It does the hole country. there are no spot beams as
such.
Channel Nine does not broadcast via C1, or any other satellite for that
matter, What you might be getting is Imparja.

Foxtel Sydney has channel 9.
I believe there's another channel 9 also ... Brisbane or Melbourne?
(whichever PBL owns)

Yes, 9 is on the C1 Foxtel transponders.

Also, I think you will find 9 feeds on B1, but not in the usual format the
other carriers are using. Have a look at QAM and Tadiran concepts
