Back to really CRAPPY Starband service...Missing spacer issu |
|
|
Well, seems nothing has changed at SB. My service was shut off about 4 hours ago. I called tech
help and waited about an hour. He said that they did a sweep and turned me off because
my dish was out of alignment.
Well, if you can get back to any of my previous messages early this year, I explained that since 1-1-05
my DL speed was next to zero, literally, most of the time. I had to wait months for the repoint,
and after several no-shows a tech finally showed up and fudged the job because SB
did not send the spacer along with a special arm that was necessary for the repoint.
I called SB (after many, many attempts, the phone going DEAD from the LONG WAITS on the
phone, and made it very, very clear what had happened, and that my dish would
probably go out of alignment at the first windstorm because it was not properly fastened
since SB did not send the spacer for my dish.
I made it clear that I wanted it recorded so that I would not have to pay for another repoint in
the future.
Well, now they have shut me down because of a misaligned dish and are telling me that I have
to have it realigned, and that they have NO RECORD of my calls about the missing spacer.
Oh, and as usual, the tech transferred me to "Customer Service" (ha ha) and of course, wait, wait,
no answer. I have now been on the phone waiting ANOTHER hour, and the phone's battery
is going dead.
Earlier this year the tech help and customer service was so understaffed that I even got
connected with someone in the accounting department who assured me he would get the
information to the proper person.
Yeah right.
Well this message was spit out in anger and with a cramp in my neck from holding this damn phone
all afternoon. Hope it makes sense. Starband really, really sucks. |

I'd compare the price of having a "technician" come out and "realign" your
dish with the cost of a brand new WildBlue installation.

Not much has changed in four years, has it? People were complaining about
the same issues back then, and even before I got my system in 1991. If you
have any kind of dialup access, I recommend DirecWay dial return. Anybody
can point the dish, because there is no transmitter involved. Hughes
Electronics no longer markets the dial return systems, but you can sometimes
find them on Ebay, and you can convert a satellite return system to dial
return with little trouble.
If you are stuck with the StarBand system, what is this spacer you are
talking about? My system was originally one of the last Model 180 systems
sold, and came with a really solid dish mount. In fact, that is the only
part of the StarBand system I kept. I mounted the DirecWay dish hardware on
it. ;o)

I've got a PCI DirectPC (er... DirecWay) dial return system I will be
putting up for sale on Ebay soon. Worked great, but was pretty much useless
when our phone service went out for a week in the middle of a big project.
I'll post to this NG (and others) when I list it on ebay.
Cheers,
Mike |
