Burn DVD from DirecTV R10? |
|
|
If I invest in a DirecTV R10 DVR will I be able to hook-up a DVd burner
and burn DVDs from recorded shows? If so how?
Thanks in advance for your knowledge and opinions.

Yes, but you'd be better served extracting files to a PC where you could
edit them and convert them to standard MPEG2 files.

Note that if the OP gets an R10, these instructions aren't valid,
since the R10 isn't hackable.

Only partially correct. R10 is eminently hackable, just follow different
instructions.
Tytools proceeds the same. Sleeper won't work, use this instead:

what is the main drawback of not extarcting to a PC other than editing?
Also, I do not have the R10 yet, what output connection is there to
connect to a DVD burner? |

You can always use the analog output (composite|s-video) and audio, but
the picture quality will be less than the original digital signal. I do
this all the time with a Lite-On standalone burner. |

If you mean analog recording, you get a slight generational loss, plus have
to do it in real time, and tie up the playback when a DVD is being made.
Extration can be done faster thant real time, and in the background.
Since you don't have the DVR yet, try to get a pre R-10 S2, which can be
somewhat easily hacked. |

By extracting its all kept digital with near zero loss of picture
quality. Use tha analog outputs of TiVo and you go through Digital->
Analog conversion and end up with something little better than a video
tape in Quality. But it is easier going that route. |

The R10 is only marginally more difficult, and may be easier given that
complete instructions are here:
