Romanian TVRi from Hotbird-6 or Eutelsat-W2, which? |
|
|
Thank you for any light anyone can throw one this:
I am planning to buy a simple satellite system in order to recive
Romanian International TV - channel "TVRi". It is not encrypted.
As far as I can see, it is available on Hotbird-6 and also on
Eutelsat-W2. These satellites are at 13 and 16 degrees East.
I have a clear line of sight to both these satellites. I was planing to
use an 80cm dish. I presume I cannot fit both into the beam-width of
one dish.
Can anyone suggest a reason why I should choose one satellite rather
than the other?
thank you,

If it is specifically Romanian television that you are after then |
you'll also get TVR1 and 2 (again part-time encrypted) on W2.
OTOH if you are not after anything specific the HotBird group of
satellites has a much larger range of services.

I don't recall ever having seen it being encrypted. It's also marked
FTA on lyngsat. I do believe they are geting around the copyright
problem by only broadcasting mainly own and Romanian productions.
Anyway, it's broadcasting a compilation of previosly sent programs
from TVR1 and TVR2 (and mayby TVR Cultural, too).

On W2 you'll also get the chance to catch National 24 (24h news in
Romanian language) - unencrypted.
Eventhogh you didn't ask ;-), my experiences with Romanian TV ...:
My Romanian born wife wanted Antena 1 (on 10 east) the most, but is in
fact watching Realitatea (24h news-channel) most often. Antena 1 is
part-time encrypted. Realitatea is FTA on 5e/4w but encrypted on 1w.
You could choose Antena 3 on 10 east for 24h news - it's FTA as well.
My wife also likes Prima TV on 62 east (that definetely requires a
dedicated dish or a motorized system). I don't seem to recall it's
ever been encrypted, but it's not marked as being FTA on lyngsat
though.
Summarized:
62 east - Prima TV, often/always unencrypted.
16 east - TVRi (FTA), TVR1 (part-time enc.), TVR2 (part-time enc.),
National TV (encrypted) and National 24 (FTA).
13 east - TVRi (FTA).
10 east - Antena 1 (part-time enc.) and Antena 3 (FTA).
5 east - Max TV package (all encrypted); FTA channels: Realitatea, Pro
TV International, Etno TV, TV K Lumea etc.
1 west - Digi TV package (some clear, some encrypted) and Focus Sat
package (all encrypted except their own promotion channel).
4 west - Realitatea, Alpha TV (Romania), Atomic TV and TVRM all FTA
(haven't got those on 11652 H myself, but there'd a few as well).
Depending on where you are located, you may not be able to receive all
those positions.

If Croatian TV HRT1 is anything to go by, Lyngsat says it F, but in |
reality it is only some of the time. You can see which programs will
be free on their teletext service. One word of warning, if you are
going to use the Lidl receiver, it will not automatically tune in
partially scrambled stations, when you do a scan of Free channels, you
have to manually tune them in. |

Or scan only the relevant transponder(s) for "All Channels" and delete
the unwanted (i.e. always scrambled) ones afterward; this can be
quicker and less fiddly on some receivers especially when there are
many transponders e.g. on HotBird.

Thank you all, especially Steen, for these helpful comments. My
partner is also from Romania and the channels are partly for her, but
also to help me learn it. I never thought, back in my school days,
how useful latin would turn out to be in later life :-)

I have just bought the Comag SL65 from Lidl, but I am having difficulty
adding the Eutelsat W2 satellite at 16deg E to it (specifically to receive
the Romanian channels mentionned already). Do you have any experience of
adding a channel in this way. Do you have any tips for me?
Thanks

Steve, it took me a long time messing around with a friends SL65 (I
dont have one here) she wanted Croatian TV which was partially
scrambled, so the auto search did not work. Assuming you are indeed on
16o (Check on the Lyngsat listing that at least some of the other
channels on 16o are in the right place) I seem to remember (perhaps
somebody else can help me out) that you needed to select a particular
transponder (in your case the one with Romanian TV on) by
Frequency/Polarisation/Name (again check the Lyngsat site), and do a
scan of all the channels on that particular transponder, thats how I
think I got HRT1 for her.
Somebody did make a correction to my earlier post saying, (I seem to
remember), that you actually do a auto scan of "All Channels" and not
just the "Free To Air" ones. Then delete out the ones you do not want.
Another tip from me is that if you only intend to use the satellite at
16o, it is best to delete off all the other satellites on the
preprogrammed list, just leaving the one you want.
Sorry mate thats the best I can do, my memory is sh1t

Depending on your partners age (if under ~30) and her level of
homesickness, she might appreciate one of the Music channels. K Lumea
on 5 east, U on 1 west and Atomic TV on 4 west are all FTA - should
you end up pointing a dish in any of those directions.
If you have BBC Prime, it has Romanian subtitles on some programs on
page 883.
Good luck with your efforts in learning Romanian language. You'll need
to be a quick learner to follow the news channels - they are talking
really fast ;-).

I have a lidl comag receiver too but i don't know with type. I look
olmost a year to romania on the eutelsat w2 (16deg E). I live in
Holland (netherlands) and i have a dish from 80 cm. For a kopple of
weeks i have some trouble to get good signal, may by my dish is to
small. I have now find some new romania station wihout codering they
are N24 end Favorite both are romania. But i have set them manualy in
my Lydl receiver:
Here are the frequency on the eutelsat 16deg East:
TVR1 11.471 code 29950 Ver (films en voetbal are
gecodeerd)
TVR2 11.471 code 29950 Ver (films en voetbal are
gecodeerd)
TVRI 11.471 code 29950 Ver
TVR cultural 11.471 code 29950 Ver
Natonal TV 11.046 code 10555 Hor (i think alwayse gecodeerd)
N24 11.046 code 10555 hor news
Favorit TV 11.046 code 10555 hor culture music
HBO Romania/Bulgaria 11.554 code 28800 ver (this one i'm not chore)
If some one knows how i can decodeer TVR1 and TVR2 please let me now.
Maybe knows someone the price for a good decoder card i have a
MatrixCam reborn and a funcard 5 but it will not work :-((
Thanks,
Alexander from the netherlands |
