whats 'fairness' got to do with it?
if they can its a bonus, they are not paying to watch the BBC so
have no expectation of doing so.

Yes, the tighter beam only means you need a larger dish as you get
further from the UK, it works down as far as Gibraltar (so it's hardly
UK only!).
Actually, Holland, Belgium and much of France, should be fine on the UK
sized mini-dishes.

Also , it is unlikely that they will extend the converage of the Free to Air
satellite footprint. The BBC having reduced the size of the footprint 2 years
ago when they stopped using the Sky encryption. You can get reception in
some
parts of Europe.
The BBC didn't 'reduce' anything, the transponders on Astra 2D were
originally designed to provide a tighter UK specific footprint, and
always have.
|
Are you arguing that the footprint was not changed - perhaps by changing to a
different transponder.

Merely pointing out that the phrase "BBC having reduced the size of the
footprint" didn't mean what it implied - that the existing beam had
somehow being changed.

If anything the next generation of satellites will have tighter |
footprints, not wider!
