I'm thinking about buying a new dish. My current 7.5 foot dish is
getting pretty old and beat up. Plus my neighbor just put up a 7 foot
high privacy fence that conveniently stops just past my dishs field of
view for the west coast satellites. Since I have to move my dish up and
out I might as well invest in a new dish while i'm at it. So my question
is, is it worth getting a 12 foot over a 10 foot? I'm currently looking
at skyvision prices but if you know of a cheaper site that would have a
better dish please let me know. My current equipment is 15 C-band, .5
KU, DBS LNB, 4DTV 922, and a Pansat 2700a. I know bigger is better but
is it actually worth the price difference?

Where do you live? If you're way up north you might want to go for the
12 but if you're in the south, the 10 is probably fine. In reality, the
10 will probably be just fine anywhere in CONUS. Generally, bigger is
better, tho...a 12 has quite a bit more gain than the 10. You may also
need a heavier mount and a more powerful arm for the 12, esp. if you
have high winds and/or snow to contend with.

Well i'm in southern ohio so do you think the 12 foot dish is worth the
extra $290 on skyvision.com? Thanks.

no IMO since you are about in the center of the footprint. Doesn't
skyvision still have the map of the US that shows minimum dish sizes?

If you're not in a hurry or if you're resourceful, you can get a big dish
for free or close to free (depending on where you live). People are often
getting rid of theirs, and you just need to look around to find such folks.

Some people will post on ebay or craigslist or other groups, but if you
see a dish in the neighborhood that never moves and looks unused, you
might inquire from the homeowner if they want some help to get rid of it.

I dont mind spending money for a new dish. I've all ready done some
looking and the few that are left around here are either beat up and
missing pannels or they are 7 foot or less. Cable and little dish rule
the area around here. Thanks for your input.
