BEV is pretty bad too..
As well as plenty of Program Information Not Available, they sometimes refer
to Peter Parker from Spiderman as Peter "Barker" and they screwed up the
name on Michael Myres from theHalloween series to something hilarious once
or twice.

They buy the guide info from zap2it. Go the SC website, search program
listings by postal code. If your receivers DO NOT show the same info
(you are getting NO INFO where Zap2it shows guide info); then your
receiver needs a hard reset to flush the guide. Pull power cord for at
least 1 minute. |

Perhaps, but between Zap2It and the SC receiver (or even perhaps a bug |
in the SC firmware, there is some failure.
BTW I use a TiVo with my SC receivers, and the guide data comes from the
same place. Also the company's name is Tribune Media Services, the
provide mass users a backdoor access to their data called DataDirect.
Zap2\Itis the web site you and I use to find what's on. |

No, it's perfectly clear. I was trying to set the dish up myself (after
years of doing it for DTV and Dishnetwork) I figured it'd be easy, but my
ego took a big blow when I could never get it above 50%. So the guys from
BEV came out, had the same problem. Then they connected a signal amplifier
and also connected 4 cables (2 from each LNB) to a switch outside and ran it
into the house to get a signal of (wait for it.... take a wild guess!) 50%.
And that's as good as it has ever been. I decided to go with BEV because,
for over a year, I had Rogers Cable out MANY (I'm talking over 20 times) to
try and fix problems I had receiving Global, TMN, NBC and CBC HD stations.
They could never fix the problem and ended up just telling me 'Look, that's
the best you're going to get'. So I promptly told them to fuck off, as they
said there was no way I get a cut rate because they can't supply what
they're charging for. So now I go to BEV and it's really no different.
That's Canada for ya I guess.

I've been nothing but disappointed in BEV (the satellite company that
labelled as 'Superior by far-over SC' which blows my mind because SC
must
be
REALLY bad).
The installers came out and oculdn't get anyh igher of a signal for the
82
satellite than I did (which is anywhere between 45 and 50%-which means I
rarely get Fox East HD, WGN HD and a couple of others. Of course it's
too
late to do anything about it through the company so I'll be using a
neighbor's dish just to get the 2nd satellite, as opposed to the dish
that
is SUPPOSED to get both satellites.
But slightly more on topic, I noticed while watching (or TRYING to)
House
on
the Fox station last night, that BEV simulcasts the Global feed on it,
which
Rogers didn't with their HD channels. That's one of the few things that
made me happy about Rogers HD service. Well, that and the fact that
they
provide guide data on their commonly defective HD cable boxes.

I'm wondering what kind of amplifier bev would have hung on there.
I wasn't even aware there was such a beast.
Sounds like you had some real winner techs there though.
Did they try just the 82 lnb with a straight wire (no switch) ?
And just try re-aiming to one sat. ?
Are you using an old wire ? (not highly likely the problem if 91 is good)
Did they swap the lnbs ?
If you can try the IRD somewhere else (at a friend.neighbors who also has
bev) is the signal still weak ?
(could be a defective receiver)
The really strange thing is that as bad as bev is, they usually insist on at
least 80% signal, before they will turn on the acct.
Are you sure you are telling us everything ?

The signal amplifier is actually a Dishnet product (a powered signal
amplifier) called 'VideoPath Power Inserter. It does absolutely nothing to
improve the signal though. And I'm pretty sure they ran the 82 straight to
the receiver, just as I had myself earlier and I think that's as high as it
ever got. And they did even change the entire mast/dish and LNB set when
they couldn't get a higher signal.
Eventually they just ran thruogh the channels and told me that the only
station that wasn't coming in was the HD Promotional Channel but later on
when going through the channels, I noticed that FOX and WGN wouldn't come in
most itmes. If they DID come in, it was only because I put it on that
station and just left the error screen up for awhile.
I still have a Bell dish mounted on the roof and a DTV dish in my basement
so I'm planning on using one of them to get the 82 on its own and not even
bother with the weak signal I'm getting for 82 on the big dish I'm using
now.

Well it sounds like they/you tried all that I can think of.
Only thing you can try yet is the receiver on another known good dish.
I can't see the beginning of this thread, but I am assuming this is a NEW
ird that should still be under warranty.
If you have a bell store in your area, drag the receiver down there, and
tell them to try it on THEIR dish.
(most have a working display set up and both LNB's, and it should be peaked)
If it's the same there, .....rip bev apart.
As they should have never left you with a 50% signal, and charged you for
it.
Every cloud that must have gone by would be giving you "rain fade"and
knocked out the signal dozens of times a day. <wink>
Mind you I've just noticed tonight several posts mentioning lower power on
82.
I wonder if there is something going on the bev is not telling.?

I still have a Bell dish mounted on the roof and a DTV dish in my basement
so I'm planning on using one of them to get the 82 on its own and not even
bother with the weak signal I'm getting for 82 on the big dish I'm using
now.

(not highly likely the problem if 91 is
good)
Did they swap the lnbs ?
If you can try the IRD somewhere else (at a friend.neighbors who also
has
bev) is the signal still weak ?
(could be a defective receiver)
The really strange thing is that as bad as bev is, they usually insist
on
at
least 80% signal, before they will turn on the acct.
Are you sure you are telling us everything ?

No, it's perfectly clear. I was trying to set the dish up myself
(after
years of doing it for DTV and Dishnetwork) I figured it'd be easy, but
my
ego took a big blow when I could never get it above 50%. So the guys
from
BEV came out, had the same problem. Then they connected a signal
amplifier
and also connected 4 cables (2 from each LNB) to a switch outside and
ran
it
into the house to get a signal of (wait for it.... take a wild
guess!)
50%.
And that's as good as it has ever been. I decided to go with BEV
because,
for over a year, I had Rogers Cable out MANY (I'm talking over 20
times)
to
try and fix problems I had receiving Global, TMN, NBC and CBC HD
stations.
They could never fix the problem and ended up just telling me 'Look,
that's
the best you're going to get'. So I promptly told them to fuck off,
as
they
said there was no way I get a cut rate because they can't supply what
they're charging for. So now I go to BEV and it's really no
different.
That's Canada for ya I guess.

Is there a line of sight issue that prevents you getting more signal
on
82.?
If there is, then maybe you should consider moving the Dish to a
better
location.

I've been nothing but disappointed in BEV (the satellite company
that
labelled as 'Superior by far-over SC' which blows my mind because
SC
must
be
REALLY bad).
The installers came out and oculdn't get anyh igher of a signal
for
the
82
satellite than I did (which is anywhere between 45 and 50%-which
means
I
rarely get Fox East HD, WGN HD and a couple of others. Of course
it's
too
late to do anything about it through the company so I'll be using
a
neighbor's dish just to get the 2nd satellite, as opposed to the
dish
that
is SUPPOSED to get both satellites.
But slightly more on topic, I noticed while watching (or TRYING
to)
House
on
the Fox station last night, that BEV simulcasts the Global feed on
it,
which
Rogers didn't with their HD channels. That's one of the few
things
that
made me happy about Rogers HD service. Well, that and the fact
that
they
provide guide data on their commonly defective HD cable boxes.

That, along with some posts about the loss of HD Movie Central-which has me
worried about losing TMN HD.
I hate... HATE HATE HATE Rogers Cable, but I'm thinking I made a mistake
going to BEV. I might have to look into those early-release fees and go
back to being raped by Rogers.

| Quote: | Well it sounds like they/you tried all that I can think of.
Only thing you can try yet is the receiver on another known good dish.
I can't see the beginning of this thread, but I am assuming this is a NEW
ird that should still be under warranty.
If you have a bell store in your area, drag the receiver down there, and
tell them to try it on THEIR dish.
(most have a working display set up and both LNB's, and it should be
peaked)
If it's the same there, .....rip bev apart.
As they should have never left you with a 50% signal, and charged you for
it.
Every cloud that must have gone by would be giving you "rain fade"and
knocked out the signal dozens of times a day. <wink
Mind you I've just noticed tonight several posts mentioning lower power on
82.
I wonder if there is something going on the bev is not telling.?
