NFL Superfan info tidbit and review |
|
|
Hey guys and gals,
A while back I had checked out this and similar forums before making
the reticent purchase of the DTV Superfan package (so I could get HD
broadcasts that were free last year -and- the only reason I subscribed
to Sunday Ticket in the first place!). Lots of good information was to
be had, so thank you all.
After the first week of Superfan use, I can offer a small bit of info
for those who haven't tried it yet. There were concerns expressed
about the interactive features of the gamemix channel being rendered
useless without an interactive receiver. In fact, some stated that
there is no interactive HD reciever on the market at this time.
Well, my concern was that the sound would not be able to be switched
from one game to the next. The simple workaround for this is to bring
up your alternate audio and you will find nine options, English 1
through English 9. E1 is a God awful soundtrack and was the default on
our two receivers (Samsung and Hughes). E2 was sound from the left
uppermost game, E3 was the next game to it's right, and so on.
And to switch to a full screen game in progress is no big deal, because
they superimpose the channel number at the corner of each game window.
Press four buttons and you are watching that game. Hit the "Back"
button and you are back at gamemix.
I really like the shortcuts; the ones I watched had the game down to
aprox 27 minutes. The Red Zone Channel is also very cool. I just
can't see watching it while the actual games are being broadcast live.
It would be a really cool option if the RZC were available seperately
(without NFLST or SF) for a very cheap price.
All in all, the added programs that Superfan offers are unique and well
executed, but it sucks that the HD feeds are bundled into it. At some
time in the near future, regular viewers are going to stop thinking
"Wow! HD!!!" and just expect it, since it is the new broadcasting
standard. I mean, DTV is probably using expensive equipment to
downconvert their HD broadcasts into VCR quality crap for all of the
customers who *only* spent ~225 on Sunday Ticket.
