Reviving my BUD - what do I need to receive PBS digital feed |
|
|
I'm looking to resurrect my 10' C/Ku setup. My primary interest is
picking up the PBS feeds - PBS kids etc. I have an old GI 2730 and have
aquired a Starchoice 405 receiver. Is there any way for the Starchoice
receiver to decode the DC2 feeds on AMC3? I'm also looking to aquire an
FTA receiver to augment my capabilities.
Thanks in advance. |

FYI-- check with your local PBS station. Ours in austin carries PBS Kids
and PBS U on sub channels of its HDTV signal.
A get them with a tuner I bought at Walmart. |

You need :
a) a Motorola DSR-922 4dtv receiver -contact NPS if in USA,or program source
if in Canada for a deal.
or
b) a dsr-905 4dtv sidecar -addon to your analog receiver.
-consider adding Ku band -soon!A lot of stuff coming up on X4
add a fta receiver.
*** the navigo 405 will only decode the starchoice signals on F1 and F2
Ku -provided it's been authorized,I would think.
I don't if it would decode ZK and FP dc2 signals on other ku band sats,or
not.

With an FTA receiver the PBS programming will be readily available on the
AMC3 satelite. That includes PBS-You, PBS-Kids and PBS-X. There is also a
channel of Montana PBS on AMC3.
The PBS video is fully receivable with any DVB-FTA receiver but in order
to receive the audio you must have one of the few FTA receivers that is
capable of receiving AC3 Dolby digital audio and you must have an
external Home Theater System to decode the AC3 audio with. Montana PBS
carries it's audio in both atandard analog audio as well as the AC3 Dolby
so any FTA-DVB can fully receive Montana PBS with no additional
equipment.
I use an older Fortec Lifetime DVB receiver along with a cheap Home
Theater System that I bought at Walmart for around $50.
I do have a subscription to the BlockBuster Online DVD service as well as
DirecTV's Total Choice Package but I consider myself to be a "PBS-a-
holic" and I would be perfectly content if PBS were my one and only
source of TV-entertainment.
Good Luck,
PON |
