Does 276C track data include depth as measured with connecte |
|
|
I'm thinking of getting the 276C but would like to find out if I could
collect depth data including positions. The 276C is made to allow a Garmin
sounder to be connected. It appears that depth can be included in waypoint
information, but I can't find anything on track points.
Preferably, depth data should be included in the NMEA out stream, but it
appears not to be, according to the online manual. I can't see any info
relating to that in the v. 3.00 update either.
I do have a Humminbird echo sounder which gives NMEA output, so it might be
possible to hook both the sounder and the GPS to a logging device such as a
Palm. There certainly would be a conflict though. Were I to use two
different logging devices, I'd have a problem with timing the depth data.
I'm interested in having a 10 meter resolution, so timing is crucial.
Any hints?

AFAICS depth data should be logged in v3.00 since it is in simulation.
Also my experiments with sending MWT strings to the 276 shows that
temperature data is logged and kept in saved track logs I can see no
reason why the same should not be the case with depth.

Since the 276 is not providing the depth data stream (i.e. it is
supplied externally) there is no reason to assume the the 276 will
output it but I would think it *if* it outputs it in simulation the it
*probably* does in the real world.
