I really don't want the usual drill a hole through the wall
installation.

I plan on getting the house pre-wired for DirecTV so that when they
come out to install it, its just plug and play.

I'll be doing this myself and am pretty handy. I have the correct
RG-6 crimper and whatever other tools I need.

What I need to know is how to run the wires. When I last had to do
this, you had two cables coming from the LNB and you either ran them
to two receivers or to a distribution block which you located where
ever you wanted.

I have heard that the new antenna supplied by DirecTV has an integral
distribution block and all cables should be attached to the antenna.
Thus, 4 receivers requires 4 cables to the antenna location.

I haven't looked at this stuff in 10 years, but moving to a new house
has forced my hand.

My intention is to buy new receivers and a DVR from DirecTV and they
supply the new dish as well. (Well, buy is the wrong word, DTV will
give me two generic receivers and the DVR costs $99 with a $99 rebate
jsut like the new subscribers, two year commitment required). $49
"installation" fee too.

Any help would be appreciated.

For replys, please delete the tildes (~), but not my middle initial,
in my E-Mail address. This is to keep the spambots from sending me E-Mail.

Pick a central location for the wiring junction. Run 2 or 3 cables from
there to each TV location. Run 4 or 5 wires from there to dish location.
This is also the location for the multi-switch (if needed).

2 cables per TV so if you get dual tuner DirecTiVos, you can have both
tuners live. 3rd option line so that receiver can back feed to another room
if desired.

4 cables from dish because the oval dish has 4 outputs, and you need to run
all 4 of them if using a multi-switch for greater than 4 tuners. 5th wire
is a spare, or dedicated OTA for local HD. Not sure if the new dish for the
new birds will require more wires or not, could run a few extras to be safe.

Don't forget to pull phone wire as well. DTV boxes like to phone
home.

I'd do a wired computer network while I was at it. Wired is faster
and more secure than wireless.
