OnSat Going To Monthly Vs. Weekly |
|
|
Just wondering what others think of the announcement in the Sept. 19-25th
issue that Onsat will be going to a monthly guide starting this October.
They took my renew money a few weeks ago and didn't say a word. I am
thinking of requesting a refund since it doesn't technically begin until
October. I would think that the guide in my DSR-922 would be just as
reliable as a monthly (as long as it works all the time). Anyone have any
comments or suggestions?
Regards,
Bill |

I will not be renewing. A monthly guide is too out-of-date by the time
you receive it. Even a weekly can't keep up with all the late changes,
but it was worth it for the convenience.

I am in a similar situation. I renewed awhile ago. My current
suscription does not expire until Oct 2006. I already advised Onsat I
may be cancelling. They said at least give the first monthly issue a
try. I agreeed to do this. I still suspect I will be cancelling.
In the past I had tried Orbit which was monthly. It sucked due to the
inaccurate info. I have been with Onsat for about 8 years. May be time
to move on. I have always paid a premium to get a weekly guide and now
it is being sent monthly. The only way I will probably keep the guide is
if there is some sort of an adjustment in my bill. Orbit can be had for
under $40.00 per year. Onsat weekly was always around $60.00 per year.

I just use Titantv.com It has about 2 weeks of info like everything else
(like Tivo), customizable to the channels I receive and does both local &
satellite (I use DishNetwork's listings for my Sat).

This is similar to my situation. I canceled Orbit in the mid 90's because
the schedules were obsolete by the time I got it. The last week of the
month was wothless. I Started OnSat and found it easier to use and a lot
more current, but still plagued with errors.
I will probably let the subscription go full term and not renew. The
articles and info are not very helpful and sometimes poorly written. So I
won't miss them.
If they end up loosing subscribers, I don't see how they will save money in
the long run. Don't think their new business model makes good sense!

I'm in Canada. I used to subscribe to Onsat until a few years back when I got
the notice from Onsat that they were dropping their Canadian subscribers but
they would transfer the remainder of the subscription to Orbit. I'm not too
sure how long it has been now but I have found no problems with outdated info
in Orbit over the past 3 or 4 years. Maybe they pulled up their socks since the
mid-90's. I don't know. Anyway, Orbit is the only bid dish guide that I can get
here in Canada now and it can only be had by subscription, I can't buy it in
any store.
Cheers,

I gave up all printed guides when satellite receivers started
incorporating listing guides as part of the service. The last GOOD
printed guide in my humble opinion was "Satellite TV Week".
Once they went out of business,I started to rely on the daily receiver
guides more and more.I don't miss the printed ones. |
