Hi,

I nearly bought a 2nd Hand Garmin Mapsource city select v6.0 Europe the
other day at a good price but then I remembered something about it being
permanently tied to specific gps units via a unique internal id.

Can I assume I did the right thing on giving it a miss because the
chances are I would not have been able to unlock it as it would already
be registered to the previous owners unit/s?

Should I be smug I wasn't ripped off of sick because I missed a bargain?

Cheers

Andy

Maybe, maybe not. Each map product can be unlocked for two GPSr's, so
one of the unlocks for that set might still have been usable.

Whether or not the seller was scrupulous enough to ensure that, and
would provide the customer code needed for you to obtain the unlock
code, however, is another matter entirely.

Cheers,

I think buying second hand CitySelect is not a good idea. If the original
owner have used only one of the two unlocks you might be able to install it
provided he gives you the coupon code, but you will not be able to upgrade
to a newer version as the upgrade is tied to the first unlocked GPS. I have
a free unlock on my CS v6, but I wouldn't feel good if I sold my second
unlock to someone now that v7 is only a couple of weeks away.

I also suppose it's not allowed to sell the second unlock, but that's
another matter...
