Is my Ku LNB dead? |
|
|
I acquired a 10' Dish with C/Ku feedhorn from someone across town for
free a few weeks back. I have it all hooked up with my Analog receiver
and 4DTV sidecar. Everything works fine on the C-Band side but I can
find no signs of life on the Ku side. The Ku light never lights up on
the analog receiver and none of the Ku channels are avlable on the 4DTV box.
My question is, should the Satellite Finder I used to align the dish
from the C-Band LNB work on the Ku LNB? If so then I guess the Ku LNB is
dead. I receive no deflection from the Satellite Finder as the dish is
moving when hooked to the Ku LNB. This Ku LNB has an LED that does light
up but I guess that just means it’s getting power and is not a true sign
of life.
I have another Ku LNB I took off a NTN hospitality entertainment dish
about 8 years ago. It says the following on the side of it:
CHANNEL MASTER
Model 6246-01 P/N: LNB
Ku LOW NOISE BLOCK CONVERTER
11.7 – 12.2 Ghz
1.4dB
Can I use this as a substitute?

Yes, Ku LNB converts Ku band to the same frequency range that C band LNB
converts C band.

Should work fine. Try it first. If you still have no signal, you may be |
misaligned. Ku allignment is significantly more tricky than C.
You may be tracking slightly above or below the arc enough that C band
registers but Ku does not. Try to schedule your alignment attempts when Ku
feeds are most prevalent. SBS 6 in particular will have college football
games Saturday afternoons. Friday nights many stations will use Ku to up
remotes from highschool games for newscasts.
Good Luck

Did you go into the menu on your sidecar and analog receiver and change the
dish settings to "c\ku feedhorn?" and "c\ku lnbs" or whatever it actually
says?
Is it wired up correctly?ie: line from ku band lnb to sidecar ku lnb in,then
ku lnb out to analog ku lnb in?
I just got ku and I find that as long as I have the dish pointing dead on
for c band,my ku comes in ok.If's a little off it doesn't.Of course,I'm
referring to 4dtv,not analog....in any event, double check your settings and
wiring before fiddling with the dish..
As for ku -4dtv....try K3-600(not 640) and X4...if your dish is set right
and your settings are right you should get something.Don't forget to check
your skew also.
