IPAQ and GPS3000 |
|
|
I'm a owner of a Navman GPS3000 for many years , I recently damaged
the screen my Ipaq a 3660 and are currently sourcing a 2nd hand
replacement on ebay.
I would be grateful if anybody could answer a question, is the much
newer IPAQ 3970 OR 3870 (or a list of devices) compatable with this
device?
Thanks |

I believe so, was using a 3850 until went down Bluetooth route, which would
be possible with the 3970 I understand.

Thanks Steve,
Which Bluetooth route did you go? I recently borrowed a bluetooth GPS
device, a little blue coloured Fortuna and I was suprised how much
better it was , my Navman loses position when indoors the Fortuna
did'nt.

GPS receiver technology has improved a lot over the last few years. About
any current model will outperform the older units.

I had a 3000 once.
If you buy a Sirfstar iii based, bluetooth antenna, and a PDA that will do
bluetooth, you will be amazed at how much better these are compared to the
Navman unit. Plus, no wires.
If you want it to be all in one, there are some plugin cards that are, e.g. SD
ones with half a gig of ram as well, which must make a really cool add on to a
smartphone, for instance.
If you want to continue to use the navman, consider buying sommat off ebay.
3630 would be cheap enough - heck, I could sell you my spare one that I don't
use now. 3660 if you want to run TT5 <- it doesn't run in 32 meg. |

Yes, but you'd be very much better buying a Bluetooth GPS. You'll be amazed
at hoe much better current receivers are when compared to the 3000 jacket
and one with a SiRFStarIII chipset is worlds better.
